Words for worship with one foot in the Reformed tradition and the other in contemporary creativity.
Liturgy literally means the work of the people. It’s all the words in worship that congregations take part in, making worship not a performance by a pastor but an offering from a whole community. Borrow or adapt these words for your congregation, giving attribution to Rev. Carol Holbrook Prickett.

Call to Worship
These opening words help us transition from our everyday distractions to focusing on the praise of God.

Prayers of Adoration
When you love somebody, you let them know! These prayers tell God just why we’re so in love with all God is and does.

Prayers of Confession & Assurance
Honesty is a key part of any relationship. In confession, we admit where we’ve gone off the rails, and ask God to set us straight. In Assurance, we’re reminded that God’s grace is bigger than our mess.

Affirmations of Faith
These affirmations are crafted from the PC(USA) Book of Confessions, a collection of faith statements that preserve the best holy wisdom of our ancestors. You’d be surprised how beautiful a confession from the 1700s can be!

Prayers of the People
This is where we bring it all to God, from the broadest needs of the world to the deepest desires of our hearts.

Blessings
You never want to leave worship without a blessing! These sending words remind people that their relationship with God is way bigger than just Sunday morning.

Communion
Communion connects us with the love of Christ and the company of all the saints. These prayers tell the whole story of our faith–all the extraordinary things God has done with ordinary people.

Baptism
Baptism celebrates new members joining God’s holy, nutty family. There are prayers here for infants through seniors. It’s always the right time to be baptized!

Ordination & Installation
Ordination sets folks apart for specially defined service in the church, and installation puts them in the right place to do God’s work. These liturgies celebrate new leaders in the church!
“Praise the LORD! I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation.”
Psalm 111:1
