A Blessing for Those Who Have Not Seen

This blessing is inspired by Jesus’ words in John 20:29: “Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have come to believe.”

Blessed are you who take delight
in what you haven’t seen,
but feel in your bones
you will one day.

Blessed are you who have trusted for long, long years,
without a single shred of proof,
yet cling to hope all the more.

Blessed are you who trust God’s peace,
to enfold you and uphold you,
even when anxiety comes like a tidal wave.

Blessed are you who are trying to believe,
even if all your friends,
your entire generation, it seems,
have walked away from church,
leaving you lonely.

Blessed are you who feel God’s joy
glimmering around the edges of your life
even when the center feels threadbare.

Blessed are you who haven’t seen a darn thing
and yet trust that there’s someone out there in the darkness,
reaching back with wounded hands
hoping one day to meet yours.

Blessed are you. Blessed are you.

Amen.
