Call to Worship Cycle: Easter People

These opening words for worship were created to accompany the sermon series “Easter People.” The bolded words are spoken by the congregation. You are welcome to use or adapt these liturgies for worship, with credit. When printing these liturgies, please use the following credit line: “Prayer by Rev. Carol Holbrook Prickett.”

Week 1: “Thomas”

We are now God’s Easter people:
people of faith and courage,
people seeking for truth,
people shouting for joy.
We are now God’s Easter people,
lifting our praises high!

Week 2: “Paul”

We worship a God who can do miracles:
raise mountains and level them
defeat death and give us life
change hearts and redeem lives.
We are still God’s Easter people:
still praising Jesus Christ!

Week 3: “Tabitha”
*adapted from Revelation 7

In worship, we join with the blessed multitudes,
the countless faithful of earth and heaven,
from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages,
standing before the throne and before the Lamb, saying,
“Salvation belongs to our God, seated on the throne, and to the Lamb!”
We join the throng; we lift our voice! We will praise our Savior!

Week 4: “Peter”
*adapted from Psalm 148

Praise the Lord from the heavens:
sun and moon, shining stars, hail and wind.
Praise the Lord from the earth:
ocean depths, mountains and hills.
Praise the Lord, all God’s people:
young men and women alike, old and young together.
Let them praise the name of the Lord, for his name alone is exalted;
his glory is above earth and heaven. Praise the Lord!

Week 5: “Lydia”

People of God, gather gladly:
sit together, pray together.
By a river, in the pews,
God’s word surprises us everywhere.
Take the Word into your heart
and praise the Lord forevermore!
