For wisdom from someone I discounted,
and for cool breezes in August,
and for the right song on the radio,
and for the very existence of dancing,
thank you, God.
For laughter that dares
to bubble through tears,
and unclenched fists making room
for someone’s hand in mine
thank you, God.
For kind words
when all I heard
inside my own head
was condemnation,
and for the fact
that grace surprises me
every
single
time
even though
it always comes again,
thank you God.
As I exhale once more,
and grace floods my lungs,
thank you.
