Lord God, we confess
that we reject what is confusing,
messy, disordered, unnerving.
We have no place in our life for ashes
no time for wild places
no patience for slow journeys.
Of our need for control, we repent.
Lead us where we do not want to go,
and in the wilderness
of dust and dirt and sand,
show us starlight and miracles,
guide us to surprising places,
reveal to us our own faithful strength.
In these forty days, give us the desire
to walk in the wilderness
if that is where you are found.
In silence we lift our sins to you,
and in your name we pray…
(time for silent reflection) Amen.
