These opening words for worship were created to accompany the sermon series “It’s a Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood: Spiritual Wisdom from Fred Rogers.” The bolded words are spoken by the congregation. You are welcome to use or adapt these liturgies for worship, with credit. When printing these liturgies, please use the following credit line: “Prayer by Rev. Carol Holbrook Prickett.”
Week 1: “Won’t You Be My Neighbor?”
God calls us to be together as neighbors in faith:
to celebrate those who came before us
to be in community with those around un
and to care for those who will come after us
With joy and thanksgiving, let us be good neighbors.
With joy and thanksgiving, let us praise the Lord!
Week 2: “The Mad that You Feel”
We bring all we are to worship God:
our hopes and our losses,
our faith and our questions.
our unique gifts and selves.
Just as we are, this very day,
we bring our praise to God.
Week 3: “I Like You Just the Way You Are”
At the end of one long week
and the beginning of another
we come to hear the good news:
that we are loved just the way we are
by a God who delighted in creating us.
Let us love the one who loves us with songs of praise!
Week 4: “Am I a Sheep?”
We are gathered together from many places
as the one flock of our Holy Shepherd.
We sing God’s praise; we lift our hearts,
while God pours love out on us.
In this hour of worship, take comfort and courage:
God is faithful still.
