Week 1: “Worshipping God”
Gracious Lord, we confess
that sometimes we come to worship
as if it is a duty or burden
and not your generous offer
of a chance to rest in your peace, grace, and love.
Restore worshipful hearts in us,
hearts that rejoice when they say,
“let us go to the house of the Lord.”
We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
Week 2: “Forming Our Faith”
Rabbi, teacher, you have given us sources of wisdom at every turn—Scripture, art, science, nature friends in faith and the whispers of our own hearts. Yet we grow stagnant, content to let our faith plateau or even wither. Help us re-root ourselves deeply in all that leads us into the life you would have us live. Keep us always craving more of you, unsatisfied until at last we see you face to face. In your holy name we pray. Amen.
Week 3: “Connecting in Fellowship”
Gracious God, we confess
to all the sins that tear relationships apart:
pride, arrogance, greed,
gossip, mistrust, jealousy,
assuming the worst of others
and bringing to them the worst of ourselves.
Mend the broken places in our families,
neighborhoods, churches, and communities.
Bind us together as the one loving and beloved body of Christ
committed to remembering that we need each other
as we need you. Amen.
Week 4: “Serving Our Neighbors”
Merciful Lord, we confess to treating our neighbors like an afterthought;
to giving those who suffer most
only the dregs of our time, energy, and resources;
to listing dangerously towards judgment
and withholding compassion.
Break our hearts again for what breaks yours.
Guide us to the hungry, the helpless, and the hurting;
show us how to love with your reckless abandon,
and teach us to be discontent with the world as it is,
striving instead for the wholeness of your kingdom.
We pray in the name of your son, who embodied justice,
loved kindness, and walked humbly with you. Amen.
